Coronavirus school update

St Cuthbert's School • March 16, 2020

Update Friday 13th March 2020

The situation regarding Coronavirus is changing daily and as a result of the change in Government advice yesterday I would like to outline what measures school is currently taking.

We have hand santisers in each class and work area in addition to having set key times of the day when children go to wash their hands. We are also reducing the times where children are sat very closely together, such as in assembly. We are intending to address this by having only one whole school assembly per week. We are aware that other measures may need to be taken in the coming days and weeks and will ensure we keep parents updated of any changes.

A number of parents have raised concerns about future trips, particularly with the upcoming residential visit to Osmington Bay for our Year 4 children. At the current time, we have no plans to cancel this visit. We will continue to monitor the situation and follow Government advice and if this advice changes we will notify parents immediately. With regard the Easter service at St Cuthbert’s Church, we are following all guidance at the moment and the service will still go ahead. We will of course review this decision nearer the time.

Government advice is currently that if your child has a temperature/fever, dry cough or respiratory problems then then need to self-isolate for 7 days. Please inform school on the first day of absence by telephone if your child is showing any of these symptoms.

We have plans in place in the event of school needing to close. Staff have put together packs of online work for children to complete. We have also prepared some project based work in homework books. Staff will be able to keep in touch with children and parents using class dojo. I will keep parents updated with any changes to government advice via Parentmail. If these measures are needed to be put in place, your child will have learning packs and you will be informed of websites where school work can be accessed and other useful educational websites.

If any parents are not registered with Parentmail could I please ask that you speak to Helen Singleton in the office to do this? In the event of a school closure, this will be the method of communication school will have with parents so we need as many parents as possible signed up. If you are experiencing difficulty accessing your Parentmail again speak to Helen Singleton in the office who will be happy to help you resolve the problems.

Please be reassured that the school will continue follow the appropriate Government Public Health Advice at all times as any situation develops. The Government has launched a DfE Coronavirus Helpline for school staff as well as parents/carers and young people on 0800 046 8687, open from 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday. Alternatively, you can email: DfE.coronavirus@education.gov.uk.

At the current time, Government advice is that schools should remain open. When school is informed that this advice has changed, parents will be informed immediately in order that you are able to make the necessary arrangements.

If you would like to discuss this further please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Yours sincerely

Helen Mullinger
