We want to reassure all parents that the safety and well-being of pupils and staff at St Cuthbert’s Cof E Junior School is paramount.
We can’t discuss the personal circumstances of anyone connected to our school, but we can confirm that members of staff and children are following national guidance on coronavirus (COVID-19) and self-isolating for the recommended 14 days.
As per government advice, St Cuthbert’s Cof E Junior School remains open and attendance is expected unless the Public Health England (PHE) and Department for Education (DfE) direct us to do otherwise. We will continue to undertake enhanced cleaning of the school site.
We will continue to follow advice from the Government and PHE and ask you to do the same. The current guidelines states that anyone who starts to have the following symptoms stays at home, and self-isolates away from others, for 14 days from when the symptoms started:
- A new, continuous cough
- A high temperature/fever
For most people the symptoms of COVID-19 are mild, and they will recover well at home after plenty of rest. However, in some people (usually the elderly or those with underlying health conditions), it can lead to severe illness. The evidence we have so far suggests that children and young people are generally only mildly affected by COVID-19. However, it’s very important we follow the national guidance and do our bit to stop the spread of this disease and help protect our most vulnerable.
Please visit here for the latest information on COVID-19: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/ and here for information on self-isolating https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-stay-at-home-guidance.
The Department for Education have set up a dedicated helpline for parents and young people with educational questions about COVID-19. The helpline is open from 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday on 0800 046 8687. Alternatively, there is an email address: DfE.coronavirus@education.gov.uk
If your child will be absent from school because they develop symptoms, please call the school absence line as usual by calling 01749 678066 or register the absence with ParentMail
Please also reiterate the message to children of the continued importance to wash their hands frequently and thoroughly (for at least 20 seconds with warm water and soap). It’s important that we do all we can to prevent the spread of the virus.
Thank you to everyone for your continued support.
Yours sincerely
Helen Mullinger
